nou:u Academy is a high-quality, professional, and friendly Academy that provides an environment for those that want to train to the highest of standards in a short space of time.

To maintain our reputation for quality, we ensure that we are delivering the highest standard of training. The trainers are professional, and all the necessary facilities, equipment, and products used in your training are of the highest quality.

Our classes will always be in small groups as we know how important it is that we give our students one-to-one time to help everyone reach their full potential. We want our students to feel like they are ready to start or develop in their careers as beauty therapists.

All our trainers are passionate and committed to the Beauty Industry and have over 20 years’ experience in the Beauty business. More importantly, they are also currently working within an established, successful Beauty Salon. This means that all our trainers are always up to date on the latest qualifications, beauty trends, and are currently performing all treatments that they teach courses in. This enables our trainers to pass on valuable hints and tips to enhance your training as they too are highly experienced Beauty Therapists.

Course FAQs

Is there parking?

The Academy has 4 allocated parking bays, on a first come first served basis, however there is a carpark immediately behind the Salon which is £3 a day. The salon is a 5-minute walk from Crawley station.

What about Lunch and refreshments?

Please bring your own cold lunch. Water will be available and tea & coffee during the break times.

Do I need to have any previous experience or qualification to do a Course?

You will be sent specific course information, prior to the course starting, which will detail the start and finish times, course details and whether you need to have any previous experience or qualification, i.e. manicure qualification to do our gel nail course.

Do I need to bring a model?

No, on most occasions, as you will be demonstrating on your fellow participants. However, should a model be required, you will be informed of this at the time of booking. If you have any concerns about having treatments on yourself, please let us know at time of booking.

How do I pay, and can I get a refund if I cannot attend?

Payments and refunds are detailed in our Terms and Conditions on our website that you will need to read prior to booking your course.

Will I receive a Course manual?

Yes, this will be sent to you before your course and for your future reference.

Will I receive a Certificate?

Yes, on successful completion of your course, you will receive a Course Certificate, issued by nou:u academy

Do I need to buy a kit?

No, where a kit is a requirement of the course, this will be provided at the start of the day and the cost is included in the course fees. Optional kits are also available to purchase.

When will I be patch tested if it is a requirement of the course?

You will be informed when you book a course whether patch testing is required. You will be patch tested at the start of the course. If you have any concerns regarding having the treatment, please inform us at time of booking.

I have difficulties and am worried about the written test, what should I do?

Please contact us, either by phone or message us so we can discuss, in private, any concerns you may have, to enable us to provide any appropriate and additional support.

Caflon Ear Piercing

Half Day Course from 10am to 1pm £90

Our Ear-Piercing course is designed for those looking to learn how to carry out an Ear-Piercing procedure safely and successfully. You will be taught how to set up your equipment and prepare your client for carrying out this procedure. As well as learning the theoretical knowledge, hygiene and safety procedures involved there will be a practical demonstration by the trainer and a requirement for you to carry out an ear-piercing procedure.

Gel Nails

1 day Course 9.30am to 6pm £250

Our Gel Nails course will teach you the essential skills that any nail technician should have to enable them to remove gel polish from the nails, prepare the nails for a new application of gel polish by carrying out a manicure treatment, and finally the application of gel polish. Due to the longevity and high-gloss finish this treatment this would greatly enhance the services when offering nail treatments.

Important Course Information

You must have a manicure qualification to attend this course.

Please arrive with natural nails, no polish on. You will have the treatment done on your nails and you will also apply this to another student. You will also be required to arrange a model to arrive at 4pm.

Introduction to Waxing

1 day Course 9.30am to 6pm £200

Our introduction waxing course is designed for those looking to learn how to carry out a variety of wax treatments safely and successfully and offer these to clients.

You will be taught to carry out a range of the most popular waxing treatments using both hot and warm wax. You will learn the theoretical knowledge required and the safety procedures involved in practising these treatments to an industry standard.

Does not cover intimate waxing.

You will be required to work on each other on the day, so please ensure sufficient hair growth on legs, under arms and bikini line of minimum of 0.5cm. You will also be required to arrange a model to arrive at 4pm.

Our Introduction to Manicure course will teach you the essential skills that any nail technician should have to enable you to carry out a professional manicure with confidence.

As well as learning the theoretical knowledge, hygiene and safety procedures involved there will be a practical demonstration by the trainer and a requirement for you to carry out a professional manicure. You will learn the correct way to use all the equipment and how to file and buff nails, cuticle work, nail polish techniques, hand massage and oil application. You will also receive invaluable hints and tips from your trainer.

Please arrive with natural nails, no polish, or extensions on your nails. You will have the treatment done on your nails and you will also apply this to another student. You will also be required to arrange a model to arrive at 4pm.

Our introduction to facial waxing course is designed for those looking to learn how to carry out a variety of wax treatments safely and successfully on the face and offer these to clients.

You will be taught to carry out a range of the most popular waxing treatments using hot and warm wax. You will learn how to wax all areas of the face. You will learn the theoretical knowledge required and the safety procedures involved in practising these treatments to an industry standard.

Lash Lift Course

1 day Course 9.30am to 6pm £250

Our Lash Lift Course will teach you the skills to enable you to carry out an effective lash lift and lash tint on clients. These treatments work dramatically to enhance the eye and reduce the need for daily make-up. As well as learning the theoretical knowledge, hygiene and safety procedures involved there will be a practical demonstration by the trainer and a requirement for you to carry out a professional lash lift. You will learn the correct way to use all the equipment to successfully carry out a lash lift and tint and give aftercare advice.

You will be patch tested at the beginning of the day.

Please arrive with no eye makeup and eyelash extensions removed. You will have the treatment done on yourself and you will also apply this to another student. You will also be required to arrange a model to arrive at 4pm.

Introduction to Massage Course

2 day Course 9.30am to 6pm £400

Our Introduction to Massage course teaches you the most common and effective types of massage requested by clients. You will learn a variety of massage moves and an understanding of massage mediums available. You will gain an understanding of the theoretical knowledge, hygiene and safety procedures involved there will be a practical demonstration by the trainer and a requirement for you to carry out a full body massage. You will learn the correct way to effectively massage and give aftercare advice.

To attend this course, you must complete the anatomy and physiology prior to attending the course if they do not already hold relevant experience or qualification.

1 day Course 9.30am to 6pm £150

Our nou:brow course is designed for those looking to learn how to safely and successfully carry out a variety of eyebrow treatments, this includes eyebrow shaping using both wax and thread, eyebrow tinting and how to measure and choose the right shape for your client. The aim of the course is that you will be able to professionally carry out these popular treatments to clients.

You will learn the theoretical knowledge required and the safety procedures involved in practising these treatments to an industry standard.

Meet Our Trainers

We are so proud at nou:u Academy to have such experienced, qualified, and passionate Beauty Professionals.

Gemma – Academy Director and Salon Owner

Gemma has been in the beauty industry for over 15 years and has always had a huge passion for offering the highest standard of treatments to her clients with love and a friendly smile. Gemma has worked in a prestigious salon, and as her level of skills and expertise grew, she took on supervisory roles and training other therapists in salon. Her knowledge, passion and commitment to service encouraged her to open nou:u beauty salon in 2017. Gemma is City & Guilds qualified in NVQ level 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Award in Education & Training and undertaking her Level 3 Assessors Award. In addition, Gemma has continued to gain industry experience, over the years, through undergoing further training herself, enabling her to offer a broad range of treatments carried out to the highest standard. These include CACI, Dermaplaning, Eyelash Extensions, Ear Piercing, Spray Tanning, Dermalogica ProPower peels. She is also an expert therapist for Dermalogica. As the Salon has expanded, this has enabled Gemma to fulfil her dream of opening the nou:u academy enabling her to share her passion through training other therapists.

Lauren – Senior Trainer

Lauren joined the nou:u team in 2018, as a senior beauty therapist offering all treatments. Lauren is City & Guilds qualified in NVQ level 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Award in Teaching, and an Assessors Award. She has a huge wealth of knowledge, an absolute passion for, and expertise in many forms of massage. She has undergone intense training for oncology massage which means she can offer her healing touch to any clients undergoing treatment of cancer, which is offered on a Hydrotherm bed. In addition, Lauren has expanded her knowledge through training in Dermalogica Facials, CACI, Brow Lamination, Ear Piercing, Spray Tanning, Dermalogica ProPower peels and Hydrothermie. Having worked in the Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Department of a large Further Education College for 3 years she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to nou:u academy

Jade – Senior Trainer

Jade has been in the beauty industry for over 13 years, having worked alongside Gemma for many years in a prestigious salon she decided to join Gemma for the opening of nou:u in 2017. Jade is City & Guilds qualified in NVQ level 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy and has undertaken her L3 Award in Education & Training. She has a wealth of skills and knowledge to pass on particularly her expertise and passionate love of nails, nail art and Facial treatments. In addition, Jade has continued to gain industry experience, to include CACI, Dermaplaning, Ear Piercing, Spray Tanning, Dermalogica ProPower peels. She is also at the highest level of Expert therapist for Dermalogica.

Bookings

It is important that our terms and conditions are read and fully understood prior to making any booking with us.

Once booking has been made and accepted by us, you will enter a legally binding contract with us on the terms detailed below.

We may revise these terms, which will be updated on our website and available at the Academy.

Please ensure you meet any pre requirement that is required for any course and provide the evidence required.

All students must be over 18, please be aware that most insurers will only provide public liability insurance to over 18s.

Bookings are non- transferable to another person.

A confirmation email will be sent within 48 hours of your booking.

You will also be sent details of the course start and finish times, the location and what you will need to bring to the course.

All courses are taught and assessed in English, and therefore, students are required to have a good command of the English language, both spoken and written. Please contact the academy if you have any concerns relating to this issue, prior to booking and paying for the course. We will ensure all reasonable steps will be taken to ensure inclusivity.

We are committed to ensuring all learners are successful on the course but it will be imperative that all students are able to demonstrate the required level of verbal and written English in order to: access the learning, be assessed and be able to demonstrate full competency in both knowledge and practical skill, in order to be certificated.

Should you have any disabilities, learning difficulties, special needs or requirements, health issues and medical conditions that may impact on you accessing and participating in the course, please contact us prior to booking. Any information will be held in the strictest of confidence. Adjustments will be made to accommodate where possible and practical.

Anyone attending the Nou:Academy premises is required to adhere to the COVID-19 safety procedures in place.

Payment is required in full at time of booking.

Please note we reserve the right to amend course prices or run promotions at any time, without prior notice. Once a booking is made, the price paid is final.

Refunds

All course fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

In the event of a genuine reason (proof may be required) a request to transfer the fees to another course will be considered at the discretion of the Director of the Academy.

Any refund requests, prior to the commencement of the course and at least 48 hours before, will be at the discretion of the Director of the Academy.

Transfer of fees to another course will only be valid up to 6 months.

Cancellation or change to Course Dates

Should you be unable to attend a confirmed training date for medical reasons including a positive Covid 19 result (proof of which may be required) a request to transfer the fees to another course will be honoured by the director of the Academy.

If the Academy should have to cancel a course, the Academy will endeavour to give students at least 24 hours’ notice by email or telephone and the fees paid will be transferred to a new course date.

Offers on Bookings

Courses booked as part of a last-minute offer booking either online or by telephone, are intended to be for a specific date/course, in the event of a genuine reason for non-attendance, at the discretion of the Director of the Academy, to transfer the fees to another Course.

Course Details

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the course.

Should you arrive late, and the course has commenced you may be refused entry, so as not to cause disruption to other students and rescheduling will be considered at the discretion of the Director of the Academy.

A short break for lunch will be provided, and you are advised to bring a cold lunch and cold drinks with you, water will be available throughout the day and teas/coffee available in refreshment breaks.

Instructions must be followed, as detailed in your Course Booking email, for each course. For example, when attending all nail courses, nails must be clean, all extensions and gel must be removed.

Patch testing may be required for tinting and lash lift courses and will be applied at the beginning of the course.

Please bring any items requested for your course, as detailed in your course booking email

and ensure you wear appropriate clothing suitable for your course.

Selected starter kits are included as part of your Course, where applicable

All products supplied as part of the course remain the property of nou:u Academy

You will be expected to give and receive treatments. There may be mixed sex classes. If you have personal or religious reasons where you require training in a same sex environment, please discuss with the Academy prior to the Course.

If your practical assessment requires you to bring a model you will be informed of this in your course email and notice will be given that a model is required.

Photography and recording are not allowed, unless with the permission of the course tutor.

You will receive your own Course manual via email before your course. If you wish to print your manual off to be able to take notes on or bring a notebook and pen please do so.

All course notes and teaching resources remain the property of nou:u Academy and cannot be relied upon for legal interpretation.

Students are required to always treat staff and peers respectfully. This includes attitude and use of language.

No smoking, use of e-cigarettes, consumption of alcohol or drugs is prohibited within the centre and during the course.

The student is required to respect all copyright conditions.

There will be a feedback form completed at the end of the Course and nou:u Academy reserves the right to quote feedback anonymously on our social media platforms, if you do not agree to this, please let us know.

You will receive an Accredited Certificate at the end of your training Course.

Any replacement Certificates will be issued at a cost of £25.
